A gravestone in Charing Cemetery has the following inscription: "In memory of Ann wife of Thomas Hyder who departed this life July 1795 aged 61 years leaving issue 2 sons and 4 daughters, Richard, Thomas, and Mary, Ann, Catherine and Harriet, also the above Thomas Hyder died Nov 1 1813 aged 81[1]. This information has not yet been further researched. It is assumed that the son Thomas mentioned here is a grandfather of Mary Catherine Hyder who married William Scott. It is believed that Thomas was a carpenter by trade.

From a gravestone inscription we learn that Thomas was born in 1762 and Mary was born in 1766. The gravestone speaks of ten children so that perhaps one of the eleven listed above died in infancy.
